In the upcoming Holiday Season, staying connected will be more important than ever. With Covid-19 still a concern, many seniors will go without the ability to see loved-ones face to face. While not a perfect substitute for an in-person visit, here are a few ideas on how to stay connected and safe during the holidays.
- Helping your loved one to get more comfortable using modern-day technology will allow them to follow social distancing protocol while still feeling connected and engaged.
- Online safety is a big concern for seniors. Seniors are attractive targets to scammers. Be sure to take precautions when helping your loved-ones with technology. Use a two-step authenticator, have strong passwords, and talk with them about common scams and schemes.
- For seniors, using social media is an excellent way to stay connected and share photos with loved ones. It can also help bridge the intergenerational gap with grand- and great-grandchildren. Seniors can use social networking sites as an easy way to connect with others that share similar hobbies and interests.
- FaceTime, Skype, and are all free programs that will allow you to stay connected with your loved-ones, even if you can’t see them in person. Often times, these are easy to set up and use, but may require a little bit of instruction to help get set up.
- Writing letters are a great way to stay in touch. While definitely old school, nothing will brighten a seniors day more than getting a hand written letter from their loved ones.
