June is Alzheimer’s & Brain Awareness Month: Supporting Families, Honoring Lives
Every June, communities across the nation come together to observe Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month—a time dedicated to raising awareness, encouraging education, and supporting individuals and families affected by Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. For non-medical home care providers like us at Home Care Plus, this month holds special meaning. We are privileged to walk alongside families during some of life’s most challenging moments, offering comfort, dignity, and consistent care to those living with memory-related conditions.
Understanding Alzheimer’s and Brain Disease
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, affecting more than 6 million Americans. It causes progressive cognitive decline, memory loss, and changes in behavior that impact a person’s ability to live independently. While there is currently no cure, early diagnosis and supportive care can make a meaningful difference in quality of life.
Beyond Alzheimer’s, other types of dementia—such as Lewy body dementia, vascular dementia, and frontotemporal dementia—also affect millions of families across the country. These conditions are often complex and require ongoing, personalized support to help individuals remain safe, comfortable, and engaged in daily life.
The Role of Non-Medical Home Care
At Home Care Plus, we understand that every individual is unique, and so are their needs. Our non-medical home care services are designed to support those living with Alzheimer’s and other brain diseases in the comfort of their own homes—where familiarity and routine can provide great comfort.
Our trained caregivers provide assistance with:
- Daily activities like bathing, dressing, and grooming
- Meal preparation and medication reminders
- Companionship and cognitive engagement
- Wandering prevention and safety supervision
- Family respite and emotional support
We believe compassionate care isn’t just about tasks—it’s about connection. Our goal is to preserve dignity, encourage independence where possible, and bring moments of joy into each day.
How You Can Help
Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month is also a time for advocacy. Here are a few ways you can make a difference:
- Wear purple, the official color of the Alzheimer’s movement.
- Educate yourself and others about early signs and symptoms of dementia.
- Volunteer with local organizations or support groups.
- Donate to Alzheimer’s research or caregiving organizations.
- Support caregivers—a kind word or offer of help goes a long way.
We’re Here for You
Whether you’re caring for a loved one or seeking support for your own journey, know that you are not alone. At Home Care Plus, we are here to provide reliable, compassionate care that respects your family’s values and needs.

The plan of care is tailored to fit changing needs and thoroughly reviewed with the client, family members and/or responsible parties.
