Postmenopausal Women–Raise a Glass to Your Bone Health

 

Given that roughly half of U.S. women will break a bone in their lifetime because of osteoporosis, it is important to take steps to reduce your risk of bone loss.  Postmenopausal women are at greatest risk for the disease because decreasing levels of estrogen can weaken bones.  A small study found that moderate alcohol consumption among postmenopausal women can help lower bone turnover, which helps prevent bone loss.  Read more in Healthfinder.gov’s article Ladies, Drink to Your (Bone) Health.
