Hospitalization May Increase Risk of Further Mental Decline and Death in Alzheimer’s Patients

A study published in the June 19 issue of Annals of Internal Medicine found an increase in the likelihood of a poor outcome (including further mental deterioration or death) when Alzheimer’s patients were hospitalized.  Patients who experienced delirium while hospitalized faced an even greater risk of poor outcome.  Some people advocate treating patients at home as a way to ensure a better outcome for those with Alzheimer’s.  Click here for the full HealthDay article, Hospitalization May Be “Tipping Point” for Alzheimer’s Decline.
