Winter Workouts

We are fortunate enough to live in a city where warm temperatures and sunshine dominate the forecast year round.  Access to the outdoors can make exercising more enjoyable and accessible.  Walking the dog, strolling on the beach, or going for a bike ride are all activities that Charlestonians can participate in most days of the year.  When bad weather happens to strike, having a few indoor options to get your heart pumping will help ensure you stay active despite the inclement conditions.

Taking your workout inside can require a little advanced planning, and many people use this as an excuse to curl up on the couch.  Instead, invest in a few basic pieces of exercise equipment, such as resistance bands or light free weights, a workout stability ball, and a yoga or cardio DVD, and you will have the foundation for a workout at your fingertips.  If your motivation is really waning, commit to doing squats, lunges, sit-ups and push-ups during the commercial breaks of your favorite TV show.  Cleaning the house can even count towards your physical activity quota—just be sure to push the vacuum faster and scrub the floors harder than you normally would!
